The NIHF STEM Escape room was developed as a collaborative effort to engage learners in the mathematics classroom. Coach Ben Graber saw a need for getting learners more confident to tackle mathematical problems and found the idea of using escape room designs in the math classroom to get learners excited about math.

Coach Graber contacted Goodyear about the idea of designing escape room experiences. Ronda Williams, who was the contact person, took the idea and went beyond all expectations. Together, with her husband, she built the escape room that now stands in our school.

The escape room encourages learners to develop the skills that we value most. Learners are required to collaborate together to solve the escape room in the required time limit. They must demonstrate perseverance to keep trying different strategies when they hit a wall. They must monitor their own progress to determine how to put the puzzles together to escape.
