STEM Digital Platform Launch 3/12/2020
Posted on 03/12/2020

STEM families

Thank you for your patience as we created structures to launch our online platform for classes beginning Thursday, March 12- Friday, March 20, 2020.

Please note that ALL APS schools including STEM will be closed on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  No online assignments will be due for attendance on this date. You are NOT required to log in.

As we enter our digital platform tomorrow we will adhere to the following protocol and expectations for the learners daily academic work.  Please follow the order so that you do not miss any important information that may be released daily. Academic assignments will be available daily by 7 am.

  1. Check your school email daily for information or updates prior to logging in to any Google Classroom.
  2. Log into your Google Classroom on the day that your class is scheduled.  For example: On M/W you will log into your M/W assigned courses. On T/TH you will log into your T/TH assigned courses.  On Friday, you will log into all your assigned courses.
  3. Complete academic work and submit by 11:59 pm on the day the class is held in order to receive your daily attendance.
  4. If you need additional academic support, all staff will be available for virtual office hours using Google Hangout daily from 9-11 am or by appointment as needed.  If you are scheduling an appointment it must be confirmed with your individual teacher. A help sheet for Google Hangouts is accessible from this link or directly in your course Google Classrooms.
  5. Tech Help:  If technical assistance is needed (i.e. broken Chromebook, etc…) support will be available at the building Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 9-11 am and 12-2 pm with Coach Caranna.
  6. Please review your attendance to ensure it was captured correctly daily.  Parents and learners can view assignments and check for daily submission via Home Access.
  7. Intervention Specialists will have access to all necessary Google Classrooms so that IEP supports can continue as normal.  They will also have Google Hangout office hours between 9-11 am daily for one on one or small group sessions.
  8. ESL services will continue as normal but in a virtual format.  Coach Plummer will create her own Google Classroom and reach out to students on an individual basis to provide support as needed.  Please check your email for her Google Classroom invitation on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

If you have internet access concerns, please call the office.  Free internet is available at the Akron Library Downtown Branch and many local restaurants or businesses (i.e. McDonald’s, Panera, etc…)

Building Level Extracurriculars & Clubs

ALL building level extracurricular activities/events are canceled through March 27, 2020 (i.e. eSports, chess club, robotics, diversity club, intramurals, etc…).  Please check with your coach for any off-site events or practices.

Counseling & Mentoring Services (Red Oak & iCare)

If you receive counseling services from Red Oak, your case manager will reach out to you to determine where your services will continue during our online platform time period.  iCare mentor meetings will not be taking place during this online platform time period.

If you have any further questions, please email or call.  Your flexibility is appreciated as we strive to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for our STEM learners and families.

Thank you,
