The NIHF STEM High School Esports Team represents Akron Public Schools as a district leader in digital competition and teamwork. Competing across titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the team has built a strong reputation for skill, strategy, and sportsmanship—both in Ohio and at the regional level.​

In the 2025 Esports Ohio season, Akron STEM 1 and Akron STEM 2 dominated the Fortnite Premier League, finishing first and second in their divisions to advance to the OHSAA Regional and State Championships. Their consistent success placed Akron among the top scholastic esports programs in the state. Meanwhile, the school’s Rocket League Premier Team finished as one of the top seeds in Northeast Ohio, advancing to live competition at Baldwin Wallace University.​

The Overwatch 2 squad also distinguished itself, finishing undefeated (7–0) during the 2024 regular season and earning First and Second Team All-Ohio honors for standout players Isaac Ogonek and Will Sacha. Their performance highlights not only technical skill but also teamwork and communication—skills at the heart of the esports program’s mission.​

Through coordinated leadership and mentorship from Akron STEM faculty, NIHF STEM Esports continues to promote inclusive, competitive gaming as part of the school’s broader STEM innovation culture. As one of the first APS schools to field competitive esports teams at the state level, NIHF STEM High School inspires the next generation of digital athletes and engineers.​
