Scientists: part of a GLOBAL community.
12/11/2020
Research projects from Hecalf's Physics and Physical Science classes! I find that in schools we often focus on achievements in science that take place in Europe or America. This can lead students to believe that these are the only places that science happens, as well as leading them to think that all scientists are white men. In order to expand their views to a more global understanding of science I asked them to research a scientist that was not born in Europe or the U.S.A.. These slideshows demonstrate some of the important work in science, done outside our normal areas of study, that our students discovered in their research.

STEM Capstone Presentations of Learning
05/09/2020
STEM Capstone is the culminating experience in the APS STEM education where STEM seniors select a problem from their community that they want to solve and follow the STEM Design Process to create a product to solve the problem! STEM Seniors maintain a digital portfolio as they work through the STEM Design Process to solve the problems they have chosen and then create a short film to document their experience. Despite school buildings shutting down and losing the support (and acting/editing talents) of their classmates, the class of 2020 persevered and finished their work! Our Top Twelve are profiled here. Please enjoy perusing their portfolios and watching their documentaries. It was a fun year and I’m extremely proud of the STEM High School Class of 2020!
